will fit in with reaching tomorrow’s end, or the day after that. The tour company does the research to determine a safe route through a busy city to and from the overnight lodging. We turn left or right where the daily route sheet tells us. Keeping track of paper work does not concern us. The tour staff has the responsibility of carrying enough copies of each daily guide. Each day we receive a fresh, noncrumpled copy of the next day’s route.
We do not even need to know what keeps our bicycles operating well. Whenever we hear a noise or something does not seem correct, we take it to the tour mechanic, and it is fixed. It is like being a kid. All we do is go outside and ride our bicycles all day, every day, for seven weeks. The day-to-day stress of normal life melts away and can be forgotten.
Wrapped in Nature
I experience so much life while I am cycling. Sometimes a bird will fly along parallel with me. As it swoops and rises on the wind it pushes under its wings, my spirits lift in the ecstasy of being there with it. The groaning sounds of two trees pushing against each other, as the wind brings them into animation, speak to me of my freedom to uproot and explore new areas. The mesmerizing movements of the grains, as the wind sweeps and swirls them in sinuously flowing, fluctuating waves, stir lightness into my being and open my perceptions. The dust devil, dancing left and right and forward and back, with its patter as it sweeps closer, seems to be enticing me to come dance with it. I close my eyes, as that lively devil crosses over and around me and dusts my sweaty, sun-screened body with grit. After it passes, I giggle from having been swept by the dancing devil.
We flow into the fragrances of the rose bushes along the fence.
